The most important rule of travel health is to start early. We strongly recommend booking a travel consultation 4 to 6 weeks before your departure date. Some vaccines require multiple doses spread over several weeks to be fully effective, and others take up to two weeks after the shot to provide immunity.

If you're leaving sooner, don't panic! Some protection is always better than no protection. Many vaccines can still be administered on an accelerated schedule. However, giving yourself a 6-week runway is the safest approach.

What to Bring to Your Travel Consultation

To give you the most accurate and personalized advice, our clinical pharmacists need to understand the full scope of your trip and your health history. Please come prepared with:

• Your exact itinerary: Including all countries, regions, and whether you'll be in urban centers, rural areas, or high altitudes.
• Length of your stay: Risk profiles change for trips longer than 3-4 weeks.
• Style of travel: Are you backpacking, staying in 5-star resorts, working in medical facilities, or visiting friends and relatives?
• Your past vaccination records: Any previous travel vaccines, childhood immunizations, or COVID-19 boosters.
• Current medical conditions and medications: Including allergies, pregnancy status, and any immune-compromising conditions.

Essential Travel Vaccines by Destination

Depending on where you are traveling, different vaccines are recommended or explicitly required for entry.

1. Routine Immunizations (Global)

Before worrying about exotic diseases, ensure your routine Canadian vaccines are up to date. This includes:

4. Yellow Fever (Required for Entry)
